Do you live in a
“Healthy Home?”

MicroShield Environmental Services Can Help You Establish the IAQ Health of your Home.

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) refers to the effect of the air inside a structure on its occupants.

Good IAQ
is the quality of air which has no unwanted gasses or particles in it at concentrations which will adversely affect someone.

Poor IAQ
occurs when gases or particles are present at an excessive concentration so as to affect the satisfaction or health of occupants.

IAQ problems can arise from moisture, insects, pets, appliances, materials used in household products, furnishings, building materials, smoke and other sources, all of which affect your indoor air quality and become a health concern.

Isolating the source of IAQ Issues and any health concerns in your home or office and providing a solution is what MicroShield specializes in.

What is an Indoor Air Quality IAQ
Healthy Home Test?

The IAQ Healthy Home test is a complete Indoor Environment Diagnostic Test that is run over a 3 day period.  The indoor environment is monitored with the PureAir IAQ Healthy Home monitor that records a 3 day indoor environmental profile that identifies the quality of your indoor environment and any Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) issues affecting your home.   The IAQ Healthy Home Test begins with:
  • A MicroShield IAQ professional places an AirAdvice IAQ Healthy Home monitor in your home.
  • The IAQ Healthy Home monitor takes a reading of your home’s indoor air quality every minute over three days.
  • The IAQ Healthy Home monitor operates quietly.
  • The IAQ Healthy Home monitor is connected to your home phone line.
  • There is NO interruption of your phone service while the IAQ Healthy Home monitor is placed.
AirAdvice generates a SmartIAQ Report for your MicroShield IAQ professional to review with you.

Our IAQ Healthy Home Test Include the Following Elements:

  • Particle Allergens such as dust, dirt and pet dander.
  • Chemical Pollutants
  • Carbon Dioxide
  • Temperature
  • Relative Humidity
  • Carbon Monoxide
  • Radon

Our IAQ Healthy Home test will also monitor and identify other areas of concern in your home such as;

Temperature problems, Improper air flow, Improper humidity levels, Elevated levels of airborne particles such as dust and dust mites, pollen, mold and mildew, tobacco smoke, pet dander, Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released as gases from paints, solvents, varnishes, furniture and carpeting, household cleaning agents, Elevated levels of carbon dioxide (CO2), an indicator of poor ventilation, and Elevated levels of carbon monoxide (CO), a toxic gas.

Every IAQ Healthy Home report we provide contains a cover page with a summary, analysis, and recommendations sections based on the test results, and a detailed analysis section with easy to read charts and graphs.

Sources of Indoor Air Pollutants

An Introduction to Indoor Air Quality

Pollutants and Sources of Indoor Air Pollution
Organic Gases (Volatile Organic Compounds - VOCs)
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. Concentrations of many VOCs are consistently higher indoors (up to ten times higher) than outdoors.  VOCs are emitted by a wide array of products numbering in the thousands. Examples include: paints and lacquers, paint strippers, cleaning supplies, pesticides, building materials and furnishings, office equipment such as copiers and printers, correction fluids and carbonless copy paper, graphics and craft materials including glues and adhesives, permanent markers, and photographic solutions.

Organic chemicals are widely used as ingredients in household products. Paints, varnishes, and wax all contain organic solvents, as do many cleaning, disinfecting, cosmetic, degreasing, and hobby products. Fuels are made up of organic chemicals. All of these products can release organic compounds while you are using them, and, to some degree, when they are stored.

EPA's Total Exposure Assessment Methodology (TEAM) studies found levels of about a dozen common organic pollutants to be 2 to 5 times higher inside homes than outside, regardless of whether the homes were located in rural or highly industrial areas. Additional TEAM studies indicate that while people are using products containing organic chemicals, they can expose themselves and others to very high pollutant levels, and elevated concentrations can persist in the air long after the activity is completed.
